The best single piece of relationship advice for me is to quit doing what women say they want and to start watching them to see what they actually display that they want.
How do women do this, you ask. You can look at the kind of men that they choose and get your answer.
A woman might say she wants a man who will listen to her yet she dates a guy who dominates the conversation and her life with talk about himself. She might say she would like to have a guy with a good sense of humor. But she ends up dating a guy who is dull, but has money.
Why is it that women say they would like to have one type of man but end up going out with a guy who is the polar opposite? This answer rests in the subconscious motivators for starting and staying in Relationships. And therein rests my relationship advice for men.
The historical and biological reason that men and women get together is to increase and multiply – to replenish the species. To break this down even further, a woman may not be thinking about or considering becoming pregnant, but in her subconscious she’s scoping the prospects for a good father for her children.
The criteria for acquiring the role as ‘good father’ doesn’t necessarily include someone who will listen to her, but it does include someone who has the potential to provide for her and her children. Her confidence in his ability to earn a living is a key piece of this puzzle.
A woman needs a man who can be and has he character to be a good provider. Even though a man can produce millions of sperm throughout his life, a woman doesn’t have as many opportunities to produce a baby. So she’s looking for someone who can provide longevity and stability for her children. Remember this is all happening on the subconscious level.
When a man meets a woman and subsequently informs her that he’s a lawyer, not just a paralegal, his chances of getting her to be his Girlfriend or spouse are much improved. This is because her perception of his ability to provide is high.
Don’t think that money is the only thing women are looking for in a potential father for their children. They also want to know that a man is generous with his resources and will spend what’s necessary to provide for their children. This may be why women place a great value on expensive gifts like jewelry. This shows that he’s not selfish and he’s willing to part with his finances for someone he cares about.
This may also be why the purchase of the engagement ring is such a large expenditure. Women get a ring when a man asks her to marry him. To a woman, the ring is not just a part of tradition or a sign of romance, but it is a tangible display of that man’s ability to provide for her and her children.
In addition, even though modern humanity makes more money from their brains than from their brawn, women still think that physical strength equals a man’s ability to provide. This is why there are times when a woman will choose a man who has a physical job than the computer geek or the accountant.
In closing, the biggest piece of relationship advice for men is to figure out exactly what a woman needs from on an evolutionary perspective then give it to her.
